simply stampin' challenge, week 32

Good Morning!

First off I would like to thank everyone for their kind wishes over the past week - I am now feeling A LOT better! A bit gutted that I missed an entire week of my life sick on the sofa and now have a couple of REALLY hectic weeks! Oh well, sometimes it cannot be helped!

Now, here we are on Saturday again and that means another Simply Stampin' Challenge!! This week is a Colour Challenge and this time the colours are....

I have a LOVELY project to share with you - I had lots of fun making this one. It was inspired by a sketch from a book called Folding Ideas for Cards and Envelopes by Laurence K. Withers.

Stamp Set: Just Perfect Alphabet, Precious Butterflies

Ink: Soft Suede

Cardstock: Very Vanilla, Peach Parfait

DSP: Domestic Goddess

Punch: Scallop Edge, Decorative Label, 3/4" Circle

Big Shot: Top Note

Accessories: Mini Brads, Brown Baker's Twine (non-SU)

Extras: Paper Piercer, Mat Pack

I started out by wanting to make a different than normal card. So this card all folds up with some of the sentiment on the outside and then continues inside. I think its a lovely and special card to give to someone going through a hard time - that's what immediately screamed to me when I saw the colours - so sunny and happy looking! 

I started by folding my card then cut a curve on one of the flaps. I added some gorgeous sunny Daffodil Delight DSP from the Domestic Goddess collection - it was all sun rays and and sparkles - I just thought it was really fitting! I punched a scallop trim to add the the front flap, and some small circles that could be used to make a tie to hold the card together. I used brads to attach the circles for the closure. On the inside I added a portion of the Top Note to the centre and a sentiment to the bottom corner punched out with the decorative label punch. I then stamped some butterflies and cut out some too, to decorate the inside and outside (I used some of these butterflies to cover up the backs of the brads. I used a combination of the Just Perfect Alphabet and my own hand writing to make up the sentiment. Finally I added faux stitching around all the edges. 

Now a really in depth card for this week but I hope you enjoyed seeing a bit of a different card and have been inspired to try something different yourself! I'd love to see what you come up with.

Week 15 already?! Wow, how time is flying! Well, we are back around to a themed challenge again at the Simply Stampin' Challenge blog once again. This time the theme is

ANYTHING BUT A CARD

I love any excuse for making something but sometimes it can seem too easy to just stick to making cards. Cards are great, they bring lots of joy and happiness to a lot of people but its fun to make other things with paper crafting too, right? Right! Well this week's entry is actually something I saw on a TV show when I was in the States a month ago and what we shall be making as our 3D item at my class next Saturday. photo mini album

A family friend asked me if I would be able to make some sort of photo album to commemorate the work 5 lovely ladies have done over the past 10 years or so making it possible for 10 european countries to use KYB (Know Your Bible) Bible study materials. I was more than pleased to be asked to do this, and after some research and talking over exactly what they wanted, here is what I produced. I finished these just before I left for the States but had to keep everything a secret as the ladies whose books these were for didn't know anything about and weren't presented with them 'til the beginning of June. Now I can show you what I made, I'm very excited!

Mini Book

These are quite some mini books.With hard covers these are really made to with stand quite some handling and really look like a real book. The front cover was decorated with a bunting style banner with the ladies' name on it. The inside pockets were origionally envelopes but I altered it slightly and actually made my own pockets (to save on decoration). On the front of each pocket was the countries name (one pocket for each country they worked with), a flag of the county and then on the back cover was a map and a icon from that country. Inside the pocket is a perfect place to put notes and photographs. Ribbon runs through the whole thing to tie it together. 

I have to say I am very pleased with how they turned out. It was a lot of worth it but so worth it to see and hear how pleased everyone were with them!

simply stampin' challenge, week 8

We are into another colour challenge! And what a colour combo we have this week! 

I just LOVE these colour! They're so bright and cheerful and summery! I thought I'd try going for a little bit more of a busy over the top card this week, and here we are...

Stamp Set: Greenhouse Garden, Just Perfect Alphabet

Cardstock: Very Vanilla, Old Olive, Pumpkin Pie, Daffodil Delight

Ink: Daffodil Delight, Old Olive, Versamark 

Extras: Big shot, Scallop Envelope, Crop-a-dile, clear embossing powder, Tombo Mono multi glue

I started off by stamping and embossing the large and small flowers from the Greenhouse Garden set. I cut them out and then curved up the petals to make them look a bit more real. I thought the background was looking a little plain so I used the Daffodil Delight marker to colour in the smallest flower and by colouring in very roughly and not breathing on it to re-moisten the ink gave a more rustic look. I thought it would be cool to attach a scallop envelop to the front with a the greeting inside, giving the receiver some way to interact with the card. I stamped "thanks" using the Just Perfect" alphabet and added it inside the envelope. I attached the envelope to the card at an angle to the card and added the flowers all around to make it look like it was in a bed of flowers. To finish off the flowers I used the crop-a-dile to punch out small little circles and added them as the centres to my flowers.

in-love with in-colour...blushing bride

The second in my series of playing with the in-colours, this time its Blushing Bride! I admit, I just wasn't that taken with the colour. My first thought was we have Pink Pirouette and Pretty in Pink, why do we need another pale pink?! But when I got the pack, looked at the colour my opinion changed, its a lovely colour, a little dusty and it really looks great on the hostess patterned paper pack I've been playing with! I loved my upline, Rhoda's, banner cards she made a few months ago (click here to see), and thought it would make a perfect summery baby girl or even wedding card!

Stamp Set: Just Perfect Alphabet

Cardstock: Whisper White

DSP: Blushing Bride (6x6 Hostess only), Certainly Celery

Ink: Certainly Celery

Punches: Modern Label

Accessories: Linen Thread, Brads (Pale Green-non SU- I wanted to use Certainly Celery brads but I don't have any yet!) Basic Rhinestones

Extras: Stamp-a-ma-jig, paper piercer

Isn't it such a sweet card?! I punched out the modern label punch in different patterns, fold them over and then use the stamp-a-ma-jig to stamp the letters on them (the Just Perfect Alphabet fits PERFECTLY on this punch for banners). I then stuck the two sides together with the linen thread in the middle. I pierced two holes, stuck the brads through then wrapped the thread around the brads so the banner was hanging between the two. SO CUTE! I used a tiny bit of adhesive it keep the "flags" from moving around, adhered a strip of Certainly Celery dsp to the bottom and then added a rhinestone and bow to finish off the banner! 

Doesn't the banner show off the patterns beautifully! It could almost be fabric!
