Happy Thanksgiving!

One awesome thing about being half American is getting to celebrate thanksgiving! Turkey, stuffing, mash, sweet potato cassarole, wild rice, spaghetti squash, roast parsnips, carrots, cranberry sauce and of course all finished off with pumpkin pie and pecan pie! 

I love that its a great time to come together with friends and family, eat good food and think upon all those many things we are thankful for! As we don't get the Thursday off work we celebrated last Saturday, and as tradition, I decorated the table!

The dried indian corn was something Stu and I picked up on our holiday this summer. It was at a place called The Corn Palace - the oddest place ever, in the middle of no-where! Its this big building with a basketball court, auditorium and museum inside and on the outside, decorated in dried coloured corn! 

Pretty table setting! I used the Gratitude for Days simply created kit. Since I'd decided not to do the project it was originally designed for I needed to find other ways to use it up. Each setting had a pocket with a sheet of the note paper inside for the guest to write what they were thankful for. The front was decorated with a bit of DSP, washi tape and some punches. 

As a little gift for coming and sharing this special time together I made everyone a box using the Curvy Keepsake Box thinlits with some cajun craze card and the Colour Me Autumn DSP. It was just the right size for 3 Lindt chocolates! 

I matched the flower arrangement to the colours in the Colour Me Autumn DSP. Love that deep purple!

I hope that wether you are American or not that today you will take some time out to be thankful for all your blessings! I know that I certainly have plenty to thank God for!

Giant Cupcake

Hi!

Another new week. Got much on this week? Mine is actually shaping up to be a pretty good one! We have card club this morning and this evening which is going to be good fun. Then on Wednesday evening I'm getting a train down to London to stay with my friend Emma. We're going to see some art exhibitions and hang out. On Thursday Sam is coming to join us so we'll all have Friday together before coming home in the evening! Sounds exhausting but it should be good fun too! Don't worry, I'll have some posts lined up for you while I'm away! 

So my friend Vicky asked me a few weeks ago to make a 30th birthday card for her friend. When I asked her if there was anything specific she was looking for she just said "big cupcake". Okay I think I can work something out there!

So this card was a bit of a case of just adding and removing items until it looked right. 

I started by just drawing out a huge cupcake on a piece of printer paper using the cupcake builder as my inspiration for the shape. I then just worked at it until it was right and then cut the pieces of pattern paper and cardstock. Here's a photo of the back so you can see how it folds a bit better! 

I thought the striped Sweet Sorbet paper was perfect for the cupcake liner - adding the scallop border punch to the top made it even more realistic. It did however look like a lot of pattern with nothing to break it up. the ribbon I eventually decided on is some that was retired - I kind of wanted to use crisp cantaloupe ruffled ribbon but I didn't have any and using more pistachio would be overload I think.

The 30 piece is supposed to resemble one of those cupcake toppers that seem to be quite fashionable at the moment. I actually sandwiched a toothpick between two of the scallop circles and pierced it through the frosting layer. 

Some texture and sponging on the frosting was to add some interest to quite a large area of Pistachio Pudding and look kind of like sprinkles. 

The flowers were one of the later additions - I loved the topper but it didn't seem to quite gel with the card right. I guess the card just looked a little bare so I added some flowers and leaves. the rhinestones are a nice finishing touch as if they are just sprinkled on.

I love Betsy's Blossoms, its such a fun set. This card follows a rough diagonal, some of the flowers are stamped directly to the card base while others are layered over top. The flowers were cut around to follow the on a diagonal and the base folded on a zig zag. Its not an every day card but for a special event like retirement, a special card is called for! This fit he bill.

This month's card club was Tea and Cake theme. I've got the cards we made to show you another day but today I thought I'd show you a couple simple little cards I made with the Take A Sip wheel that I made while I was thinking of what cards to do for card club (we did another card with take a sip).

So some really simple cards, just using the wheel to add tea cups and mugs to the background, one I coloured in all of them and the second was just one of the cups that I coloured on a separate scrap of paper and layered it over top with some punches. The dotted scallop ribbon border is great for adding a little extra detail and border to the wheeled image!

So I stamped some of the accessories from the Bundle of Love stamp set on Whisper White cardstock and coloured them in using a blender pen for a watercolour finish. They were punched out with a 1" circle punch and layered on top of some DSP from he Nursery Nest. I added some taffeta ribbon to the card  and tied an additional piece of ribbon to the bow for a bit of a different look. A modern label punch with a sentiment just finishes it off!

yummy, yum, yum!

Just thought I'd ake the time to show you another of the samples I made using the new products in the Summer Mini. 

I can't believe we leave for America next week!!! Super excited but I have so so much to do before we go. Now one of the things I am really looking forward to while we are over in Wisconsin is going to Culvers for frozen yoghurt! Oh my goodness its so so yummy! If you haven't tried frozen yoghurt, the only way I can describe it is like Ben and Jerry's but so much better!!! YUM!

Aren't these just so yummy lookin'?! One of my favourite flavours is Pistachio!! The exciting bit on this card is the cherry scented embossed powder  which I added to the cherries! Its smells lush!! I added some scrap strips of cardstock to the bottom for more of a colour pop!

This was the card that we made at class this month to showcase a few bow techniques. First off was the flat bow - easy to do and no wasteage, also its flat so it'll go through the post with no aditional postage. The second bow was the little baker's twine bow made using a fork! Yep, just a normal kitchen fork!!!

Its a pretty and simple card but I really like it at the moment! It's just so summery!

I decided that I wanted to use the Bright Blossoms stamp set so I had to add the tiniest bit of Limeade for the stalks and leaves! I used the 3 colours in the flowers and vase and then I wanted to emphasise these colours so used the modern label punch as strips behind the decorative label punch. For the Tempting Turquoise I just added a thin border around the edge!

50 anniversary - card 7

Well I thought it was about time I drew my 50th anniversary card series to a close with the last of the cards that I made for a lovely couple a few months back.

So I used the bird punch to make the birds and the branch for them to sit on. I thought it worked better having the branch curving up the side of the oval frame. It looks like the birds are sitting in a little nest! I embossed polka dots in the background for some added texture and stamped the sentiment on a modern label punch below the birds. I didn't really think that a "50" would work here so I opted to add the 50 inside the card instead! 

I hope you have enjoyed seeing lots of pretty 50th anniversary cards recently. I've got a couple more orders to do so I will be digging out my neutrals and gold embossing powder again this week! How fun!

When I saw this challenge in the list I thought of yay that sounds like fun, and I had loads of ideas. Then when I actually sat down to make the card all my ideas seemed to abandon me and nothing seemed to work.

I was thinking about this "lace" card I made for a SSC a little while ago and thought I'd try to do another vellum lace type card. I stamped the doilies all over the vellum and embossed with white embossing powder. I cut out a frame in my card and inserted the vellum. For my "splash" added some elegant eggplant as a doily and for the sentiment. To balance it out I also added a few strips of edgelits near the bottom quarter and a sliver of elegant eggplant cardstock. I added white and eggplant faux stitching and pearls to finish it off.

addicted to baker's twine??

Now, the new mini catalogue is just crammed full of lovely new stamps, ribbon, punches, paper and of course the score board but I think the product I am most excited about is the Baker's Twine! For those of you who don't know me, I have developed an obsession with baker's twine - I've seen so many projects on the internet using it and I've been LONGING (as my long suffering customers well know) for Stampin' Up! to bring out some baker's twine for us over here! And now we have 6 fantastic colours! 

Baker's twine is a mixture of white and coloured threads twisted together to make up a pretty twine that can be used for wrapping around cards, gifts and so much more. 

What I love about it is that its got colour which is thin and subtle that won't detract from the main focal point. Its also really inexpensive at £2.50 for 22.9 metres of the stuff which means that you can wrap it several times around a card or gift guilt free!!! 

So, I've been having great fun playing with the twine and have some projects using it to show you over the next few days. Today I thought I'd really go all out and use baker's twine as the main theme of my card...

I wrapped the baker's twine around the whisper white cardstock in bands of colour - I thought that wrapping the twine around white cardstock would really help make the coloured strand running through the twine pop! I made a simple scored frame on my whisper white card base for the twine to sit inside. On top of that I layered up a few tag/label punches, again in white with limeade of the sentiment and for a little glitz I added some rhinestones which had been coloured with a lime permanent marker. And that's the card folks. I love it - definitely a subtle card but a great way to showcase the lovely baker's twine!

Just thought I'd show you a card that I made with one of the sets (Happiness Shared) that Rhoda lent me last month. Its a set that I have been eyeing up in the catalogue for quite a while, its very pretty! Unfortunately there's so many beautiful sets that its impossible to have everything - this is just one of the many I wish I had but haven't got around to getting yet!

A nice simple card with some colouring in. I then cut out all the little bits and layered it on top of a decorative label punch as a frame. I added a frame of Always Artichoke around the outside of the decorative label punch, I think it adds a nice touch! I used the leaf to decorate the background - my owl patterned paper if you will - it breaks up really large areas of colour nicely! I finally added a modern label punch with my sentiment, some more leaves and some pearls!

So I haven't used the Greenhouse Garden stamp set for quite a while so I thought I would get it out and realised it pairs very well with the French Foliage stamp set. I used the 'kissing' technique I was explaining in yesterday's post on the flower and covered with heat and stick powder, then dazzling diamonds glitter. I did the same thing to the leaves. The background was stamped all over with the french script and water drop stamps in the French Foliage set (I stamped off the stamped images on scrap paper to give a softer background and really let the glittery flower stand out!). I stamped the sentiment on Whisper White cardstock, punched out with the Modern Label punch and then ran the Cajun Craze marker around the edge to help it stand out a little from the background!

here's a bit more of a rustic style card using the Delicate Doilies stamp set. I used the colour scheme from the Simply Stampin' Challenge a couple weeks ago - Very Vanilla, Pear Pizzazz, Soft Suede and Chocolate Chip to create this card. I am really loving this colour palette, such lovely rich earthy colours!

I stamped the larger doily in versamark and then embossed with clear embossing powder. I inked over the top of it with Pear Pizzazz and them stamped and embossed a few more smaller doilies and inked up with Soft Suede and Chocolate Chip. I punched out the Modern Label and hand wrote the sentiment. To finish it off I couldn't help but add some pearls! I'm going through pearls like crazy these days!

Another of the new Designer Papers is called Just Add Cake. A collection of brightly coloured stripes, dots numbers, letters in really scrummy cake and icing like colours. It really is a very yummy pack!

So I cut squares of the DSP and adhered it in a patchwork style to the cardstock then ran it though the Big Shot. I assembled a flower out of cardstock in the same colours contained in the DSP. I finally stamped and punched out the sentiment and then ran my Wild Wasabi marker around the top note to give a very little extra definition against the Whisper White background.

delicate doilies...

Today I have another quick share with you, another card made using the Delicate Doilies stamp set - can you tell it is becoming a rapid favourite?! This card was for Stuart's aunt Deb's birthday which was on Saturday.

I stamped the doilies in the background and then heat embossed a white doilie over the top  I hand wrote the sentiment and punched it out with the modern label punch. I finally finished off the embossed doilie with a green rhinestone brad. This is using two of the two new in-colours - pool party and lucky limeade. Both are really lovely!!

A few days ago was my August class. This month's class focused on punches! I love punches so to do a class on punches was just so much fun!! Here are the project we did...

Flutter Away Butterfly

A cute card using the stencilling technique. To finish it off we added a fe punched butterflies out, this made it look like the butterflies were flying off the page! 

Flower Box

This was the main project we focused on this time as it involved rock and roll, glittery, glossy butterflies, gorgeous rolled roses, and fluffy 3D flowers!

simply stampin' challenge, week 21

So sorry its so late, as my previous post said, a lot has been happening! This week's challenge is a themed challenge and the theme was

Punch it Up 

I love punches and use them on a daily basis so I was wondering how I could make a card a little differently than my normal excessive use of punches. Therefore I thought I'd show you a card using a technique I saw in the Stampin' Up magazine that all the demos get on a monthly basis, its also a technique we did at class this month! 

Hi There Stencilled Flowers

Stamp Set: Basic Phrases

Ink: Rose Red, Garden Green

Cardstock: Pink Pirouette, Wild Wasabi

Punch: Modern Label, 5 Petal Flower

Accessories: Basic Pearls

Extras: Sponge, Yellow Permanent Marker, Copy Paper, Dimensionals, Tombo

I punched out the flower shape from copy paper and then using the left over copy paper temporarily adhered it to the card with tombo. I then sponged over the top, peeled off the mask to reveal stencilled images! I free hand drew and cut the curve of the card as there was a lot of dead space, it adds a bit of a different quirky look to the card also! To define the edge of the card I sponged around the card, added a sentiment on the modern label punch. Lastly I coloured in some pearls with a permanent marker and added them to the centre of the flower!

A couple weeks ago it was my upline, Rhoda's, 30th birthday, so she obviously needed a special card! Unfortunately I didn't have anything with numbers on it, so I improvised and it actually worked even better than I was expecting! Here we go...

30th Birthday

Accessories: Very Vanilla Satin Ribbon, Basic Pearls, Crystal Effects, Dazzling Diamonds

Extras: Blender Pen, Jumbo Wheel Handle, Wheel Guide, Builder Spindle and Spacer, Dimensionals, Tombo, Pencil, Black Pen

So I stamped my cake in some Very Vanilla cardstock and the coloured it in with a blender pen. I drew in pencil the 30 on top of the cake so I could get it exactly how I wanted it before tracing over in pen. I added a spot of glitter to the top of the 30 to make it look like burning candles. I ran the builder wheel across some Perfect Plum cardstock, added some satin ribbon in the centre and adhered it to the Crumb Cake base card. I mounted the cake on some Regal Rose and Rose Red cardstock, and adhered to the card with dimensionals. I then stamped and punched out the sentiment, adhered with dimensionals and added a few pearls. I also decided to add crystal effects to the cake stand to give it a little extra glossy shine. I Rhoda liked it!

y This is a little bit of a Christmassy card but by changing the colour combo this card works well at any time of the year! I think this is a card layout that I will be turning back to again and again! I wheeled out the So Swirly wheel in Certainly Celery on Certainly Celery cardstock. I tore the edge and inked it up with Certainly Celery ink to add some definition and adhered it to the Whisper White card base. To blend the Whisper White and Certainly Celery together I inked around the edge of the cardstock to soften the look. I stamped the flowers from the Season of Joy set on Real Red cardstock and layered some punched flowers using Poppy Parade dsp in the centres and on top of that some pearls. Finally I stamped the sentiment on some Poppy Parade dsp and punche out with the Modern Label punch, inked around the edge to finish!
