Hi there everyone! Well I've had a rubish cold this week and therefore just about managed to do the housework nd general bits and bobs that I NEED to do so no energy for blogging this week. Sorry, I do have mountains of stuff to show you all, honestly!

Perfect Pairs

I've got to say when I sat down pretty late on Thursday night to try and put something together, I was really NOT at all inspired! I didn't know what I was going to do, so I hope you like what I ended up with.

Me & You Hearts

So as I said, I wasn't inspired but I had the Tea Shoppe set out (in the new Summer mini releases May 1st!) and I saw the stamp set that says tea for two, me and you and I thought the me and you kind of links in with the pairs - thought it would make a cute anniversary card. So I stamped that portion on the stamp and cut it out, stamped a few hearts and assembled. I added a little bit of the scallop dot border punch to just fill in the area a bit and "ground" the hearts a tad. Finally I chopped off some of the bottom of the card and added a button. 

Hope you like this and it fits in with the theme enough. I know its a pretty loose interpretation of the theme!  Look forward to reading your comments! Thanks for stopping by,

Simply Stampin' Challenge time again! This week is a sketch challenge.

Well as usual with the sketch challenge I ended up doing some jiggling around to make it work. This whole card came about because I wanted to use the Deliciously Made For You sentiment which I was borrowing from my downline. I hought it would make a lovely card paired for the domestic goddess paper. I cut strips of the paper and punched some scallop border to edge the middle panel and adhered it all down. I white embossed the sentiment on some basic grey cardstock and added hearts to fill in the blank space. But when I added it to the card it just didn't really stand out and work. so I thought I'd try making some scallop edge and add it and while I was punching away the thought came to me that I could use the crop a dile to make holes in each scallop which would then match the scallop trim in the dsp! Brilliant idea I thought! And doesn't it work well?! I added some daffodil delight underneath to help the detail show up more as its quite a busy dsp and I wanted my trim to stand out!

Last night was my first ever card club. I had 6 lovely ladies come and we all had a great time! Heart on a Line

Stamp Set: Teeny Tiny Wishes, I {heart} Hearts

Ink: Pool Party, Wisteria Wonder

Cardstock: Whisper White, Pool Party, Wisteria Wonder

Punch: Cupcake Builder

Big Shot: Perfect Polka Dot Embossing Folder

Accessories: Linen Thread, Mini Clothes Peg

Extras: Sponges

So the edges of the cardstock were sponged lightly. The "clouds" are punched from the cupcake builder and run through the big shot for some texture. Linen thread was wrapped around the pool party cardstock and tied in a bow. Finally I stamped and cut out a heart and added it to the line with the mini clothes peg. Lastly I stamped a sentiment at the bottom in Wisteria.

simply stampin' challenge week 45

We are back on a theme challenge this week at the Simply Stampin' Challenge blog. And the theme this time is Heartfelt - just in time for Valentine's day. Aww, sweet!

So for this week's creation, here is one of the cards that you can at my card club on Monday night!

Friend Valentine

Stamp Set: I {Heart} Hearts, Teen Tiny Wishes
Ink: Baja Breeze, Certainly Celery, Perfect Plum
Cardstock: Very Vanilla, Baja Breeze, Certainly Celery
Punch: Dotted Scallop Ribbon Border
Accessories: Linen Thread, Basic Pearls

I stamped the flourish heart in Baja Breeze, Certainly Celery and Perfect Plum in a line on Vanilla cardstock. I stamped the LOVE heart in Perfect Plum and used a dimensional to adhere it to the Baja Breeze heart. For the middle heart I stamped the Friend heart and cut out the middle section and adhered that to the centre of the Certainly Celery flourish heart. The bottom heart has a small linen thread bow and a pearl on it. I framed this piece of Vanilla cardstock with the Dotted Scallop Ribbon border punch. I stamped the dotted heart all over the background in Certainly Celery ink on Certainly Celery cardstock for a tone on tone effect. Usually I don't stamp the inside of my cards but this time I decided to - at a slight angle, I stamped the dotted heart in Certainly Celery and then flourish heart inside the dotted one in Baja Breeze. I then stamped Happy Valentine's Day in Perfect Plum to finish off!

a few wedding things

If you remember that at the end of August it was my cousin Ben's wedding to his beautiful bride Hannah. I just thought you would like to see the card and gift I made for them!

The second of my 3 farewell cards for women leaving a women's Bible Committee. This one is for a lady who is getting married in August. She is from the Caribbean and will be moving back to the Caribbean with her new husband.

Another really simple card, a bunch of hearts stamped and layered up on top of one another. I added a torn piece of textured Regal Rose cardstock and Early Espresso ribbon to the top. In the bottom right hand corner I hand wrote the sentiment on a modern label punch and then sponged the edges with Regal Rose to help it blend in with the rest of the card! 

Hope you like it! I think its definitely very cute!

vintage loving

Hello friends! 

Just a quick little post for you today...

Vintage Love

Stamp Set: Punch Potpourri (Hostess Only), I {Heart} Hearts, Basic Phrases

Ink: Basic Black, Rose Red, Old Olive, Crumb Cake

Cardstock: Very Vanilla, Rose Red, Crumb Cake

Extras: Sponge, Dimensionals, Blender Pen

I stamped the heart from Punch Potpourri on some Very Vanilla cardstock and coloured in the flowers using the blender pen and finally cut it out. I then stamped some hearts from the I {Heart} Hearts stamp set on another piece of Very Vanilla cardstock. I then sponged the Very Vanilla cardstock and the Vanilla heart with Crumb Cake ink to give it a vintage aged feel. Finally I adhered all the elements together and stamped the sentiment at the bottom of the Vanilla cardstock. This would make a very cute little wedding card for someone or indeed an anniversary card!

simply stampin' challenge, week 7

Week 7 at Simply Stampin', and we are back to a sketch once again!  When I saw this week's sketch I thought it might be difficult, and it was. To be honest my first attempt was a COMPLETE disaster! It was beyond repair. So I ditched it and started again. I think I've played it very safe this week but I hope you like what I came up with! 

A Happy Hello

Stamp Set: I {Heart} Hearts

Cardstock: Certainly Celery, So Saffron

DSP: Certainly Celery, Rose Red

Ink: Versa Mark, Daffodil Delight

Accessories: Whisper White Grosgrain Ribbon, Basic Rhinestones

Punches: Modern Label

Extras: Clear Embossing Powder, Dimensionals, Sponge, White Gel Pen

 This card is very bright, clean and springy. Perfect for the end of spring as we head into summer! To add a little more difinition I sponged the edge of the So Saffron layer and then did faux stitching with a white gel pen. It looks lovely and ties in the ribbon. Where the two ribbons crossed I added a couple hearts and for some difference in texture I embossed one of them with clear embossing powder. I finished off the card with the modern label punch and some handwriting again with the white gel pen! 

I hope you like this! I'm pleased with the final outcome after all my struggles, even in it is a little safe!

everyone gets to make a magnet!

As promised, here are the projects I demonstrated last night! 

Congratulations Hearts 

Stamp Set: En Francais, I {Heart} Hearts, Fun & Fast Notes

Cardstock: Crumb Cake, Riding Hood Red, Marina Mist

Ink: Versa Mark, Riding Hood Red, Pacific Point

Pastels: Marina Mist, Riding Hood Red, Pumpkin Pie

Accessories: Pumpkin Pie Button, Linen Thread

Extras: Clear Embossing Powder, Heat Tool, Cotton Balls, Sponge, Dimensionals, Glue Dot

In this first demo I really wanted to highlight the wonderful ways you can use the versa mark ink pad (something I don't think I could live without!). This also included embossing!

I stamped the En Francais background stamp with versa mark on the Crumb Cake cardstock and then used cotton balls to gently rub and blend Stampin' Pastels over it to give some gentle colour and bring out the writing! I then stamped the hearts with versa mark and covered them in clear embossing powder and heated with my heat tool. I used a sponge to rub some Pacific Point ink over the small LOVE heart to show the emboss resist technique. Finally, I adhered everything together, stamped the sentiment from Fun & Fast Notes and added a small button!

Extras: Paper Crimper, Sponge, Dimensionals, Glue Dots, Stamp-a-ma-jig, Modern Label Punch

With this demo, I wanted to show how to use a stamp-a-ma-jig as I think it is an amazing peice of kit and show how perfect it makes stamping and possitioning every single time! I also wanted to show how you can get more out of your ink pad by sponging! 

I used the stamp-a-ma-jig to stamp the medium flower from the Greenhouse Garden. Then I used the sponge to sponge Marina Mist ink around the edge of the Whisper White cardstock, I also dampened a piece of whisper white ribbon and sponged it on both size so it was Marina Mist in colour! A great way to get a piece of white ribbon to match any colour ink you have!! I love it! I layered up the cardstock and then stamped, punched and sponged the sentiment before adhering it to the bottom of the Whisper White cardstock, this just "grounds" the flowers so its not floating. finally I crimped the edge!

today's offering

Just one quick little card for you all today. I needed to send a Wedding Acceptance card to my friend Kathryn's wedding, here's the result! 

Wedding Acceptance

Stamp Set: I{Heart} Hearts

Ink: Old Olive, Versamark

Cardstock: Kraft, Rich Razzleberry textured & smooth, Old Olive, Early Espresso

Accessories: Basic Rhinestones

Extras: Dimentionals, We R Memory Keepers Corner Chomper, Scallop Edge Punch, Brown Pen (I would have used a Early Espresso pen if I had one at the moment)

I stamped the flourish heart in a border pattern along the bottom of the card and then adhered a scallop trim of textured Rich Razzleberry and a thin strip of Old Olive to section off a portion of the card for my sentiment. When it came to stamping the top section, I was at a bit of a loss as to what to do, I wasnt sure I had the space nor wanted to mirror the hearts along the bottom of the card so opted for simply stamping the polka dot heart in rows, going off the page. I also tried along the left hand edge to stamp some upside down, and it failed miserably, enter my repair job...I stamped the solid heart in versamark on smooth Rich Razzleberry and then the flourish heart in versamark on Early Espresso, layered them over the offending area and added a rhinestone for some sparkle! I also added a thin strip of Early Espresso along the bottom of the card to cover up some white stitching I had tried and decided that it really just did not work! Finally, I rounded the top two corners to mirror the curves of the heart. 

Wow, just looked at how long my card explanation was, I was not expecting it to be that long! I just wanted to explain a little more about some of the things I tried and didn't work and how I resolved them! I usually find, unless I have a definite idea of what the card will look like, a card goes through a process of chopping and changing several times before it is finished and I am satisfied. I know some people like to draw out and pre plan their card before they even pick up a tool, but for me that method just doesn't work. I like to get stuck in, play around, experiment and test what does and doesn't work, something will emerge from the ashes! Also, a card is rarely too far gone to mend and can actually turn out even more beautiful for the accident (I was not origionally intending to add the two addtional hearts and rhinestone to the above card but it really works and has really added a little something extra to the card!). I just wanted to share with you all a little of my though process and show that even creative people struggle and make mistakes, but also share ways in which I fixed those problems!

birthday card

Its been a busy day, printing off things I need to make myself totally prepared for workshops next week, designing business cards to hand out too, then off  to work at Aunt Lil's (my husband's great aunt) getting her dinner and cleaning over lunch period, going to Bible study at my mother-in-laws this afternoon and then went back to my friend Donna's for a bit of a impromptu chat..It was also one of my best friend's (she was actually one of my bridesmaids at my wedding last July) birthday today, we were going to a party at her this evening and I wanted to make her a special card from my stash of stuff, and despite not much time, here is what I finally came up with.

Kathryn's Birthday Card

Accessories: Pumpkin Pie Button, Linen Thread

Extras: Glue Dots

I know this card was quite similar to a card that I made yesterday, but I just felt it was really something I wanted to work with a bit more. I used a different stamp from the set for the background, but still stamped off to give a bit more of a subtle look. I wrapped the thread around several times and added a button, this time pumpkin pie to give a tiny pop of colour! I actually originally made the card the same size as the card yesterday, but it just was not working. I really didnt know what to do, the strip of kraft cardstock was just too wide in relation to everything else on the card, so I carefully peeled it off (a bit of a tricky task as Stampin' Up's snail adhesive is really good and strong) and then I chopped off a chunk of the bottom of the card to just make it a lot narrower, and suddenly it just worked so much better! I was happy. I hope Kat liked it! 

I had a really nice evening at Kat and Rob's tonight. It was nice to see their new place, and meet their new babies...guinea-pigs! Gizmo and Dill are absolutely gorgeous! they have really .long quirky white and ginger furr...its so funny and cute looking. I had such a long cuddle with Dill, he just sat so still and snuggled! I totally fell in love, now just to persuade my husband to let me have some! I think that might take a while, but a girl can try, cant she?!

my week just keeps getting better!

Wow, overslept this morning and I must've been shattered as I didn't hear the door bell. When I came down I had a slip of paper saying that I wasn't in and they had delivered the package to my neighbour. Naturally my neighbour was out...grr! I had absolutely no idea what it could possibly be, and its been driving me totally nuts all day! I hadn't ordered anything else and really wasn't expecting anything to come. Finally he came home and I was able to collect my mystery package! It was from Stampin' Up! Even more confused now, but still I opened it and it contained some really wonderful goodies! Some beautiful buttons, linen thread and sparkly rhinestones (the magpie in me has totally come out and I really can't wait to use them, they are just stunning!) So, I still don't really understand, but I am so very grateful to whoever it was! It was a most wonderful surprise! :D


I've spent today cutting out all the pieces I need for my demos and make and takes for the workshops next week. feeling a bit more organised and relaxed about the whole thing now. I'm sure the nerves will pick up again next week but being prepared definitely helps!


I've made a few more cards, but I think I'm going to have to make a couple more now with my new goodies. Exciting!

Last night I couldn't sleep, and while I was flicking through the catalogue, in a vain attempt to sleep, I saw the paper crimper, something that my mom and I bought when we first got into Stampin' Up ten years ago. I used to use it on lots of my projects to finish them off, but I haven't used it for the last few years, the white gel pen sort of took over! I kind of miss using it so thought I'd give it a go, trying to make a card using it. I thought I'd use a couple stamps from Every Little Bit and use repetition to make them work for a card. I cut the ribbon into a "V" cut, just to try something else a little different. Its nice to push myself to try different things. I enjoy the challenge!

I really loved the stamped off heart pattern as a background, this piece of whisper white was a bit I had when done when I was playing around with ideas for Stuart's valentine's card. I figured it was a shame to just let it go to waste so I tore off the remaining paper. Tore some strips of old olive cardstock to enhance the ripped edge (tearing isn't really something I have done much of before so it was nice to have a go and experimenting with it). I decided to ink the edges to give a bit more definition to the layers of cardstock. The buttons and thread came just as I was trying to finish off this card, it was just the perfect finishing touch! I think I will give this card to my mom next week at her workshop to say thank you for hosting a workshop!

just a bit of play

I have spent the entire afternoon playing and being creative with all my new goodies...it felt so good! I am just loving all my new stuff and the quality of the materials is outstanding...its so nice to work with materials that don't let you down. On a more serious note, I was also working on demos and make and take stuff for my workshops I have coming up next week. My mom is hosting one on Weds 23rd in the afternoon, and mine is on Fri 25th in the evening, if youre interested and in the area youre very welcome to come along! Anyway, as promised, here are the outcomes of my day of play! (sorry the the low image quality, by the time I had finished playing and cooked dinner and was ready to photograph and blog, there was no natural light left and you know how rubbish indoor lights can be for taking photos, but still, here they are)

Again, a really simple card just showing another way to use the blender pen, this time to fill the image with stampin pastels (I had to use a retired colour as the set I have is one I bought in 2002, when I first got into Stampin' Up in the States). the background was stamped in versamark and then the pastel was applied to the inked area with a cotton ball, just to highlight another use of the pastels. 

And finally, I have one last card to share with you all, seeing as its Valentine's Day, I figured I should make my wonderful husband a sweet valentines card. So here it is...

Extras: White Gel Pen, Dimentionals, We R Memory Keepers Corner Chomper (I know its not stampin' up but I really felt that the corners could be rounded to improve the card)

To get a more subtle background effect with the heart stamps I used the stamping off technique, stamping each one off once on a piece of scratch paper before stamping onto the Kraft cardstock. I'm really pleased how it turned out, it really makes the white and the red in the foreground stand out! I think that by rounding the corners it really enhances the curves of the hearts. 

And just the finish off this mamoth blog entry, geesh I didn't realise how long it was or how long I've been sitting at this computer screen, I thought I'd just fill you in on a couple other lovely suprises I had today. 


First, was from the lovely Rhoda, my upline, she so sweetly sent me some swatches she made for the designer patterened paper available from the catalogue so I can show it off to all of my lovely guests. The paper is gorgeous and yet another reason why you should totally come to/host a workshop so I can show it all off to you! She also sent me some lovely cards she made with the current sale-a-bration sets that are on offer for free when you spend £45 until the end of February. And some really cute little swaps she got when she went to convention last November. It really was so kind of her, and I am very grateful for all of her wonderful ideas she has given me! 


Second was from my darling husband. He came home from work today with some really gorgeous white daisies and a heart-shaped balloon for me. I LOVE the flowers! I thought the balloon seemed a little out of character and until he told me the florist just gave it to him for free...yay for free stuff!
